XRP's Split Personality: Network Metrics Surge While the Chart Keeps Bleeding

XRP drops to $0.99 amid bearish technicals and mixed derivatives, while on-chain metrics and RWA value surge, creating a rare divergence.

The gap between what XRP's blockchain is doing and what its price is doing has rarely looked wider. On Tuesday, the token brushed against a fresh 52-week low of $0.993 while the underlying network logged transaction volumes that haven't been seen in months. The divergence has traders scratching their heads about which signal to trust.

A Derivatives Market That Can't Make Up Its Mind

The futures complex added to the confusion. Open interest in XRP futures jumped by roughly $172 million in a single hour on Tuesday, pushing total open interest to around $2.5 billion. Funding rates at major exchanges spiked more than 200 percent — a move that typically signals bullish positioning. Yet the price action tells a different story, with the token pressing down on the psychologically significant $1 level and triggering roughly $11.4 million in long liquidations within 24 hours.

That tension between derivative positioning and spot price is a classic setup for a squeeze — though the direction of that squeeze remains an open question.

The Numbers Behind the Standoff

XRP last changed hands around $1.01, sitting 6.44 percent below its 50-day moving average of $1.08. The weekly decline stands at 6.65 percent, while the monthly picture shows an 8.50 percent drop. The distance from the August 2025 all-time high of $3.35 is stark: the token trades roughly 70 percent below that peak.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?

The technical picture offers little comfort to bulls. XRP trades beneath all four major moving averages on the daily chart, and the Relative Strength Index sits at 34.2 — weak, though not yet in oversold territory. Analysts on X have circled $1.00 as the critical support to watch, with a sustained break below opening the door to the Fibonacci zone around $0.97. Further downside targets sit at $0.90 if that level gives way.

The Network Tells a Different Story

While the chart bleeds, usage data points in the opposite direction. The seven-day average transaction count has climbed above the six-month average of 1.83 million, and active addresses have grown more than 5 percent over the past 30 days.

Perhaps more tellingly, exchange inflows have dried up. Deposit addresses at Binance collapsed roughly 96 percent compared to monthly and quarterly averages, with inflows down 79 percent and outflows down 85 percent against 90-day baselines. CryptoQuant analyst CryptoOnChain reads this as a potential sign of bottom formation — fewer tokens making their way to exchanges means less ammunition for sellers. The analyst is careful to note, however, that the data alone doesn't confirm broad accumulation.

The Ecosystem Grows Beneath the Surface

The network's fundamentals continue to expand even as the token price stagnates. The total value of tokenized real-world assets on the XRP Ledger has climbed to $4.4 billion, driven largely by JMWH, a tokenized electricity commodity from Argentine provider Justoken that now commands roughly 51 percent of the network's RWA market share.

Ripple's regulated stablecoin RLUSD is also gaining ground. With a market capitalization of $1.6 billion, it has become the third-largest US-regulated stablecoin, supported by institutional partnerships with Mastercard, JPMorgan, and BlackRock. Yet these ecosystem wins haven't translated into demand for XRP itself — the stablecoin continues to see net inflows while XRP investment products remain flat.

Institutional Caution Persists

The institutional picture remains cautious. Weekly inflows into spot XRP ETFs fell 93 percent for the week ending August 8, dropping from nearly $15 million to just $1.01 million. The Grayscale XRP Trust reduced its holdings by more than 103 million XRP during the first half of 2026.

XRP at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Regulatory uncertainty continues to hang over the asset. The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which would formally classify XRP as a digital commodity under CFTC oversight, faces a procedural cloture vote in the Senate on September 15. Prediction market Polymarket currently gives the legislation only a 16 percent chance of passing — a sobering indicator of how difficult the path through Congress remains.

Inflation Data as the Next Catalyst

All eyes now turn to Washington, where the US Labor Department releases the Consumer Price Index on August 12. Market participants view the print as a binary catalyst for XRP. A softer-than-expected inflation reading could fuel a recovery rally toward $1.08, while a hotter number might confirm the breakdown below the dollar mark.

The coming days will test whether the network's growing usage can eventually anchor the price, or whether the macro headwinds and institutional caution prove too heavy for the token to carry. For now, the one-dollar line remains the battleground — and the data points in opposite directions.
