The trial run is intended to set up, optimize and validate the production equipment and manufacturing processes ahead of series production. CATL said the company had completed the required permits and other preconditions before starting operations on the first two production lines, according to the release.
Planned capacity
The Debrecen site is planned to become CATL’s largest manufacturing base outside China, with battery-cell production capacity of 100 GWh once all facilities are ready. The company also said it had produced 537,000 battery modules at the site since module manufacturing began in autumn 2024, according to the release.
