Leadership succession proposal
On October 6, ESM Magazine reported that Sonae had proposed current Chief Executive Officer Cláudia Azevedo as the next chair of the board and current Chief Financial Officer João Dolores as the next CEO. The proposed appointments were expected to take effect at the start of the next corporate term, following the annual general meeting in April 2027. The report said majority shareholder Efanor backed the proposal. ESM Magazine said Azevedo would continue her executive duties and work with Dolores during the transition.
Planned change in management
Publico reported on October 1 that Sonae’s board had announced the succession proposal, with Azevedo moving to the board chair role and Dolores succeeding her as CEO. The report said the change would follow the election of the board by shareholders in April 2027 and subsequent confirmation by the new board. It also attributed the plan to decisions by Paulo Azevedo not to seek re-election and by Cláudia Azevedo not to pursue a third CEO term. Publico reported that the proposed transition was intended to begin a new leadership cycle.
