Goldman Sachs Builds Stake in Kontron Amid Share Price Weakness
28.03.2026 - 10:26:54 | boerse-global.deSignificant buying activity from both corporate leadership and a major Wall Street institution is providing support for Kontron's shares, which have faced substantial pressure following a cautious financial outlook.
A Strategic Move at a Low Point
The Goldman Sachs Group has established a notable position in the technology firm, reporting a holding equivalent to 4.43% of voting rights. The bulk of this stake was acquired through financial instruments such as swaps. This regulatory disclosure coincided with a stabilization in the share price. After hitting a fresh 52-week low of €18.00 on Thursday, the stock recovered, closing Friday's session at €18.74—a gain of 4.11%.
Cautious Forecast Tempers Investor Sentiment
The recent volatility was triggered by the company's guidance for the 2026 fiscal year. Despite posting a 15% increase in adjusted EBITDA to €220.5 million for 2025, the new targets disappointed the market. Management described the coming period as a "transition year," projecting an EBITDA of approximately €225 million on revenue of up to €1.8 billion.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Kontron?
These figures fell short of prior consensus estimates, contributing to a year-to-date decline in the equity's value of more than 20%. A record order backlog of €2.5 billion, heavily supported by growth in the Defense and Transport segments, is cited as a stabilizing fundamental factor.
Management and Analyst Responses
To counteract selling pressure, Kontron's board announced a share buyback program with a volume of up to €50 million. This action is complemented by CEO Hannes Niederhauser, who has expanded his personal holding through market purchases.
Several prominent research firms have revised their models in light of the updated guidance but maintain positive ratings:
- mwb research: Reduced price target from €36.00 to €34.00
- DZ Bank: Lowered fair value estimate from €33.00 to €31.00
- Jefferies: Maintained price target at €27.00
The executive board reaffirmed its long-term "Vision 2030," which aims for an operating result of €420 million. With the initiation of the buyback and the fundamental backing of a multi-billion-euro order book, management has taken concrete steps to underpin the valuation at current levels.
