Nearly 40% of clinicians report AI prevents treatment errors. With the EU AI Act deadline approaching in August 2026, industries from healthcare to logistics are adopting AI to boost safety and efficiency.

Nearly two in five healthcare professionals say artificial intelligence has directly prevented treatment mistakes, according to a major international survey. The finding from the Philips Future Health Index 2026, which polled over 2,000 clinicians, adds urgency to a looming regulatory deadline: on 2 August 2026, tough obligations for high-risk AI systems take effect across the European Union.

The same report reveals that 46 percent of hospital staff who use AI save at least 132 hours per year. Across the English Channel, the UK’s NHS is rolling out Microsoft 365 Copilot to more than 500,000 clinicians after a pilot showed average time savings of 43 minutes per day. Yet caution remains high – 86 percent of healthcare professionals insist that all AI results must remain under continuous human supervision.

Beyond the ward, AI is transforming industrial safety. German truck manufacturer Bergmann & Koch this June launched a camera system that uses AI to detect people in blind spots. The HD camera, with a 140-degree wide-angle lens, alerts drivers both visually and audibly – a direct response to the most common cause of accidents in delivery traffic.

In warehouse logistics, pet-food maker Royal Canin has deployed automated scanners from Zebra Technologies at its Cambrai plant to handle roughly 200,000 pallet loads per year. The result: a 50 percent increase in forklift loading rates and a read accuracy of 99.98 percent. Manual interventions – and the accident risks they carry – have been slashed.

Other firms are streamlining administration. The German statutory accident insurer BG ETEM said in early June that AI can cut bureaucratic workloads and improve safety training. Its AI-powered service portal is already live, and digital assistants for risk assessments are under development, though a human verdict remains irreplaceable.

Software vendor DICIS AG introduced an AI assistant for ISO certifications in June, claiming time and cost reductions of over 80 percent. Siemens, meanwhile, announced the “Intelligence Center X,” a platform to scale AI applications. Initial tests at glass manufacturer Vivix have already reduced production cycle times.

While the EU AI Act focuses on high-risk systems, UK employers must also meet domestic health and safety obligations. The free Health & Safety Toolkit provides risk assessments, checklists and toolbox talks aligned with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH, PUWER and more – helping you protect your workforce and avoid costly penalties. Germany’s oversight of the AI Act will be shared by the Federal Network Agency, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), and state data-protection authorities. Companies that fail to act risk not only penalties but also falling behind in what many call the digital safety revolution.
