The defence gear maker Renk heads into a pivotal week with a freshly minted 11.7% weekly gain, but the stock now faces a critical technical test at €49.80. That level coincides with two high-profile investor conferences in Frankfurt and Warsaw, where management will pitch the company's credentials to institutional buyers — all while the largest shareholder plots a complete exit.

The KNDS Factor Puts a Ceiling on Sentiment

Tank maker KNDS, which owns a substantial stake in Renk, is preparing to sell off its entire holding. The impetus comes from the German government's plan to acquire 40% of KNDS in a deal that values the Leopard 2 manufacturer at up to €20 billion, implying an €8 billion outlay for the state. The government's entry is slated before KNDS's own initial public offering, pencilled in for summer 2026.

To free up capital, KNDS has already begun chipping away at its Renk position. On May 20 it placed a block of 5.8 million Renk shares at €45.10 each. A full divestment would flood the market with additional stock in the near term, but longer-term analysts argue that a higher free float could draw larger institutional investors. For now, the overhang caps enthusiasm — even as the share price has climbed more than 11% since that placement.

Order Book Offers a Counter-Narrative

First-quarter numbers released earlier this month explain why the stock has found buyers. Renk booked incoming orders of €582.3 million during the period, a 6.1% increase year-on-year and the strongest start to any year in the company's history. The total order backlog swelled to €6.9 billion, providing multi-year visibility. The Vehicle Mobility Solutions division delivered the standout performance, with orders jumping more than a fifth to €478.4 million.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk?

Revenue reached €283.6 million in the first three months, up roughly 4% from the prior year. Adjusted EBIT came in at €42.4 million, pushing the operating margin from 14.1% to 15.0%. Earnings per share leapt from €0.01 to €0.15, reflecting strong operational gearing. Management reaffirmed full-year guidance of revenue above €1.5 billion and operating profit between €255 million and €285 million.

Technical Picture Hinges on One Level

Closing Friday at €49.09, Renk now sits less than 5% beneath its 50-day moving average. The immediate ceiling is the session high of €49.80 — a break above that on a sustained basis would confirm the rebound has legs. Below, supports lie at €48.33 and €47.67, with the 52-week low of €43.99 acting as the floor.

The 14-day relative strength index stands at 77, flagging short-term overbought conditions. Even after the latest rally, the stock remains 44.7% below the 52-week high of €88.73 touched in October 2025. The average analyst price target of €70.33 implies substantial upside, but the path depends on how the market absorbs the KNDS overhang.

Renk at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

A Week of Catalysts

Renk presents at the dbAccess European Champions Conference in Frankfurt on May 26, followed by the Erste Group conference in Warsaw on May 27-28. That schedule coincides with the release of German trade, employment and consumer price data on May 29. The annual general meeting is set for June 10, with the profit forecast already confirmed.

The coming days will test whether the rally can withstand the weight of a looming block trade and turn the €49.80 resistance into support. A failure to clear that mark would suggest the buying momentum is fading.
