Billy Joel announced Turnstiles 50th reissue on 30 September

Billy Joel announced the Turnstiles 50th Anniversary Edition on 30 September 2026, giving his classic album a new archival format. The official notice describes the new release as a definitive 4CD and Blu-ray box set.

Billy Joel’s Turnstiles announcement sets out the archive

The announcement presents the project as an expanded edition of Turnstiles, with 67 audio tracks and 54 previously unreleased recordings. That makes the release distinct from a standard reissue: its format is built around a substantial archive rather than a single remastered disc.

Billy Joel’s official latest-news page records the announcement on 30 September 2026 under the full title Turnstiles 50th Anniversary Edition. The official release announcement is also reflected in Sony Music Canada’s press listing for September.

Billy Joel’s New York identity shapes the Turnstiles edition

Billy Joel is an American singer-songwriter, composer and pianist whose work is closely associated with piano-led rock and pop songwriting. The Official Charts profile identifies him in those musical terms and places the artist within a long-running album and singles catalogue.

That identity gives the anniversary edition a clear focus. Rather than introducing a separate project or a new artist name, the box set keeps Billy Joel and Turnstiles at its centre, presenting the album through additional recordings and physical formats. The result is a release built around songwriting, studio history and the preservation of an established work.

The Turnstiles box set expands Billy Joel’s archive

The 4CD and Blu-ray configuration gives the edition a substantial physical form, while the 67-track audio total sets it apart from a basic reissue. The 54 previously unreleased recordings add archival depth and make the collection more than a repackaging of the original album.

The wording of the official announcement also matters for collectors in Germany and elsewhere in Western Europe: it identifies both the edition name and the formats in one place. The project is therefore easy to distinguish from ordinary catalogue streaming or a single-album digital listing.
