Rock of the Westies returns in a 50th anniversary edition
The edition will be released on 20 November 2026. It spans 2LP, 2CD, 1LP and digital formats.
The new set includes previously unreleased piano and vocal versions of the album’s songs. Its preview track is Street Kids (Piano / Vocal Version), a stripped-back treatment built around John’s voice and piano.
Elton John’s piano archive gains a stripped-back frame
Elton John is a British singer, composer and pianist, as Britannica identifies him. His musical identity combines piano-led performance with a long songwriting partnership with Bernie Taupin.
That combination gives the reissue a clear connection to his established work. The piano and vocal material places the archival focus of the anniversary set alongside the instrument central to his musical identity.
How the Rock of the Westies reissue reshapes the album
The standard edition preserves the album itself, while the expanded material revisits its songs in a reduced voice-and-piano setting. The arrangement change brings the songwriting and keyboard parts closer to the foreground.
The project also links two sides of John’s catalogue. Rock of the Westies belongs to his 1970s studio work, while the new recordings present familiar compositions without the full-band presentation associated with the original album.
