Elton John expands Rock of the Westies on 20 November
The expanded edition pairs the original album with previously unreleased Piano & Vocal Versions recorded during the original sessions. The UMR release listing names the 2LP, 2CD, 1LP and digital editions.
The release date is Friday, 20 November 2026. Official Charts release details also describe the expanded formats and their previously unreleased material.
Rock of the Westies shows Elton John in a rock setting
The album is presented as a rougher, more experimental recording than some of Elton John’s earlier releases. Its arrangement uses heavier drumming, funky bass lines, two guitars, synthesiser and percussion.
That full-band character gives the anniversary set a clear internal contrast. The original album retains its larger rock arrangement, while the additional recordings focus on piano, voice and the underlying songs.
Elton John’s piano and vocal versions revisit the album
The new recordings offer alternate performances of the album material rather than a separate collection of unrelated songs. They are drawn from the same sessions and have not previously been released.
The track sequence includes Street Kids, Island Girl, Grow Some Funk Of Your Own and Dan Dare (Pilot Of The Future). The expanded formats place those songs alongside the original album and their Piano & Vocal counterparts.
