Metallica’s heavy metal roots meet a new venue
Metallica formed in 1981 through the meeting of James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, and Britannica’s account describes the band as American heavy metal. Their debut Kill ’Em All arrived in 1983, followed by Ride the Lightning in 1984.
The 22 October performance connects that early thrash-metal identity with the band’s current Sphere programme. The current line-up is James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo, as listed in a current line-up profile.
Further 2026 dates keep the Sphere run moving
After the October dates, the official calendar lists Metallica at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, on 19 November and 21 November 2026. Those shows broaden the run beyond Las Vegas while the Sphere dates remain concentrated in October and early November.
