Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will close the Rainforest circuit track at Mossman Gorge in Daintree Rainforest from 9 November to 15 December 2026 for planned upgrades. The closure affects a major walking route in the national park, while several nearby facilities remain accessible.
The site is in Tropical North Queensland, near Cape Tribulation and north of Cairns. The official park alert says the works are intended to improve the track's condition, safety and long-term sustainability.
Rainforest circuit closure begins on 9 November 2026
The Rainforest circuit track will be closed from Monday 9 November to Tuesday 15 December 2026. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service is the custodian named in the official closure alert.
The notice does not close Mossman Gorge as a whole. The Mossman Gorge day-use area, Lower river track, Baral Marrjanga boardwalk and Rex Creek bridge track, including its swing bridge, are listed as remaining open during the upgrade period. Visitors are instructed to follow closure signs and not enter the closed area.
The alert warns that the closure date could be extended because of adverse weather or unforeseen construction delays. That makes the park alert the relevant access reference for visitors travelling during November and December 2026.
How the closure fits Daintree Rainforest's park setting
The national park has two sections, Mossman Gorge and Cape Tribulation. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service places it between 80 km and 150 km north of Cairns, with the rainforest meeting the reef in the Cape Tribulation section.
The closure changes the walking options at Mossman Gorge rather than removing access to every part of the park. The Baral Marrjanga boardwalk remains an alternative rainforest route, while the Rex Creek bridge track continues to provide access to a named feature during the works.
For the wider Daintree area, November 2026 also brought a separate conservation development. Rainforest Rescue said it received a $5.33 million grant from the Wright Burt Foundation for work focused on the Daintree Oxbow floodplain, as reported by Newsport Daily.
