Sacré-Cœur Basilica (Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre) in Paris will host a three-day Saint Thérèse relics programme from 30 October to 1 November 2026. The basilica’s published programme names teaching, veneration, prayers, singing and vigils around the relics.
Saint Thérèse relics arrive at Sacré-Cœur on 30 October
The programme begins on Friday 30 October 2026 with a mass at 3pm presided over by Father Stéphane Esclef, the basilica’s rector. Veneration of the relics is scheduled from 4.15pm to 5.45pm, followed by Vespers, a mercy vigil with Saint Thérèse and confessions, then Compline.
On Saturday 31 October 2026, the programme includes readings from Thérèse’s texts and singing in the presence of the reliquary. Visitors can also attend further veneration and an evening vigil. The official relics programme places the event inside the basilica in Montmartre.
Why the relics programme fits this basilica
The Sunday programme coincides with All Saints’ Day on 1 November 2026. It includes a solemn mass at 11am presided over by Celestino Migliore, the apostolic nuncio in France, veneration from 12.30pm to 1.30pm, teaching at 2.45pm and a prayer period around the relics at 4.30pm.
The link with the site is also historical. The basilica’s official history records that Thérèse Martin, later Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, consecrated herself to the Sacred Heart in its crypt on 6 November 1887. The relics programme therefore brings a named figure from the building’s history back into a place connected with her early devotion. A history of the basilica records the connection and the building’s main milestones.
Construction began after architect Paul Abadie won the competition in 1874, with the first stone laid in 1875. The basilica was consecrated on 16 October 1919, more than four decades after construction began. Continuous Eucharistic adoration started there on 1 August 1885 and remains part of the sanctuary’s identity.
The programme keeps the church’s working role visible
The relics gathering is not presented as a museum display. Its published schedule combines liturgy, prayer, teaching and singing, while the basilica continues to function as a place of worship. The choir organ is being used during services while restoration of the main organ continues through the end of May 2027.
