Piazza del Campo in Siena will form the starting point for the Siena Awards ceremony on 10 October 2026, when a Gold Carpet route leads towards Teatro dei Rinnovati. The square, also called Il Campo in the event details, is part of the historic centre that gives Siena its UNESCO status.
Siena Awards leads from Piazza del Campo on 10 October
The ceremony belongs to the opening day of the Siena Awards Festival. The organiser places it at Teatro dei Rinnovati inside Palazzo Pubblico, with the route beginning in Piazza del Campo before continuing to the theatre. The programme names Fernando Tiberini as host and lists the date as Saturday, 10 October 2026.
The published event information describes the Gold Carpet as a route for the evening's protagonists and places an Event Backdrop along the way. The ceremony will present crystal trophies to winning photographers. Siena Awards ceremony details also place the meeting point at the Teatro dei Rinnovati, whose address is Palazzo Pubblico, Il Campo, Siena.
Piazza del Campo gives the photography event a civic setting
The route connects a major photography event with Siena's historic civic centre. Palazzo Pubblico faces the square, while the theatre occupies part of the same building complex. This makes the Gold Carpet more than a transfer between venues: it links the open public space with the interior stage named for the ceremony.
The square has a distinctive shell shape and a circumference of 333 metres. Ten lines of white travertine divide its red-brick paving into nine sections, a layout associated with the Government of the Nine, which ruled Siena from 1287 to 1355. The municipal regulations that shaped the buildings around the square date from 1297. Visit Siena's square guide records these features and the area's place within the UNESCO World Heritage setting.
Fonte Gaia stands at the lower part of the square. The fountain was sculpted by Jacopo della Quercia in 1419, while the version visible today is a nineteenth-century replica by Tito Sarrocchi. The arrangement of the square therefore places the Siena Awards route among civic architecture, medieval urban planning and a later sculptural landmark.
