Ecolab reported stronger third-quarter execution on October 27, with sales growth accelerating and profitability improving despite acquisition-related costs. The latest ad-hoc-news.de report adds a firmer 2027 operating outlook to the earnings picture.
Stronger growth reaches the margin line
Ecolab's reported third-quarter sales increased 13% to USD 4.69 billion from USD 4.17 billion a year earlier. Organic sales growth accelerated to 7%, comprising 2% volume growth and 5% pricing growth.
Adjusted operating income rose 14% to USD 893.4 million, while organic operating income increased 11%. The organic operating income margin reached 19.6%, up 70 basis points from the prior-year quarter. Pricing and productivity offset higher commodity costs, leaving organic gross margin at 44.9%.
CoolIT remains an earnings drag
Adjusted diluted earnings per share increased 5% to USD 2.18, but reported diluted earnings per share fell 5% to USD 1.95. The adjusted result included an approximate 10% headwind from amortization and financing costs linked to the CoolIT acquisition, while net interest expense rose to USD 124.8 million from USD 55.3 million.
Global Water was a major growth driver, with sales up 21% in public currency to USD 2.48 billion. Global High-Tech organic sales increased 63%, reflecting demand from microelectronics and data centers. Life Sciences sales rose 16% in public currency, and its organic operating income margin improved to 23.3%.
2027 outlook raises the bar
Ecolab maintained its 2026 adjusted diluted earnings-per-share outlook of USD 8.10 to USD 8.20. For the fourth quarter, management projects reported sales growth of 12% to 14%, organic sales growth of 6% to 7% and adjusted diluted earnings per share of USD 2.13 to USD 2.23.
Management expects 2027 organic sales growth at the upper end of its 5% to 7% target range and an adjusted operating income margin of 20%. Adjusted earnings growth is expected to accelerate in the second half of 2027 as comparison effects from recent acquisitions fade.
